Rosanna Czarnecki – Teaching proposal for Silk in Santa Fe Conference 2010

The proposal I am presenting is to teach a two day class to cover an in-depth look at composition in painting.   Along with the principles of composition, the lecture will cover common compositional errors to avoid. These ’red flags’ can differentiate between a successful or questionable painting.  Materials are suggested.  During class students can work on drawings or paintings, or bring photos of, or completed work for critique.   Following is the class description.

 Principles of Composition

The goal of this class is to help students develop confidence in applying compositional principles to their paintings to recognize and avoid common errors.  Composition will be taught in simplified language to help establish a good foundation necessary to make paintings successful.  Materials are suggested.  Group, and as time allows, individual critique will follow the lecture. Students are encouraged to bring whatever materials they think they may need to help them in areas they would like the most help with.  Bring drawings or paintings to work on, plus bring photos of work or completed works for critique.
