Morning: Introductions, Materials and Techniques

a.    Introductions and showing/discussion one of teacher’s framed art

b.    Materials: go over supplies

c.    Discuss safety

d.   Hand out notebook: for Students

Traditional Silk Painting Framing System: Teacher demonstrates Classic Framing System

a.    Foamcore cutting

b.    Stretching the silk

c.    Pin the silk to the Foamcore

d.    Cut the tapes

e.    Attach the silk with short tapes to the Foamcore

f.      Cover the edge with 1” tape

g.    Measure the mat board

h.    Cut the mat board

i.       Install the matted painting in the frame.

Gallery Wrap of Silk Painting System: Teacher demonstrates Gallery Wrap System

a.    Connect the ends of the wood stretchers to create a frame

b.    Sand corners of frame

c.    Stretch the under layer silk on the frame and staple to the frame

d.    Stretch the painting silk over the under layer silk and staple to the frame

a.    Alternative to framing of art

b.    Show samples

 

Afternoon: Students frame two of their painting in the above manner

a.    One on one help will be given to each student.

b.    Each student will frame and mat their painting using my Traditional Silk Painting Framing System

c.     Each student will frame their second painting using my Gallery Wrap of Silk Painting System

 

                    

Materials List for Students:

1.     two steamed paintings measuring  15” x 15”

2.     one piece of unpainted light silk  measuring 15”x 15”

3.     four 12” wooden stretcher bars  

4.     50 straight pins, pencil and measuring tape

5.     stapler, staples and round ended school scissors

6.     archival 1” tape
