The use of LIQUID WAX  AND DYES on silk

 

MATERIALS

 For questions about the materials list contact Jacqueline Bradley at jackiebradley1213@att.net

   -Wooden canvas stretcher bars to make 2 frames :  6  :  24” stretcher bars and 2 :  32” stretcher bars  ( total of 8 stretcher bars)

  - 3 prongs thumb tacks to hold silk (preferred). Box of 100 tacks.

   -Regular thumb tacks may be substituted

   -   SILK :     One piece of silk CHIFFON :  24” x24”
                Two pieces of silk HABOTAI ( 8mm) :  24” x 32”

   - 1” paper tape .

  - Jacquard American Gutta , Clear: 4oz. ( p.32 Dharma,as above )
    Gutta applicator,metal tip( size #7) with squeeze bottle (p.34 )

 - DYES :  3 primary colors : yellow, red, blue. (2oz.)
             ADD :   3 colors of your choice.( 2 oz)
I use Jacquard green label dyes  (p.37 Dharma) OR  Dupont dyes.(p.36)

 - LIQUID COLD WAX :  8oz.jar
    ( from PRO chemical &dye :   www.prochemical.com )

  -  BRUSHES:  2 large,flat, 1”
                          2 medium , ½” : one flat,one round.
                          2 small : one flat, one round.

 - 2 large containers for water.

 -Hand held blow dryer

 -One, or a few images (with WHITE areas in it ),that you like.

 - One or a few items for STAMPING with liquid wax (not too small in size)

 -  Old rags ; Q- tips; paper towels; black pencil.
 

 

 

 

Technique learned in France in 2007,while I attended their " Festival

International de peinture sur soie", on " Chambon sur Lignon". The liquid wax is

applied with a brush;dye is applied,the wax again etc... Similar to batik

technique,without the heat. Nice results.This works well on a "Chiffon" type of

silk,but also Habotai and Crêpe de chine.
